The Sodium lamp as a light source cannot be considered as a point source and it therefore does not emit light in all directions equally!
If we consider the diagrams below then it can be seen that from a cross-sectional view as in Figure 1 , the lamp does emit light in all directions equally however from a sectional view the lamp emits large amounts of light in one plane but very little in the opposite plane.
When Considering Reflector Design for the sodium lamp in horticultural use the advantages of the Ecotechnics Diamond Reflector can clearly be seen over traditional rectangular designs.
The Ecotechnics Diamond Reflector has been designed to compensate for the natural imbalance in light distribution that is inherent in the sodium lamp and re-distribute the available light so as to give a more even spread of light with less hot spots which in turn leads to more even growth.
The Diamond reflector was fine tuned in one of the UK's Leading Photometric laboratories using a 3-D Goneo Photometer system to achieve a nearly perfect optical distribution.
Due to physical differences in arc tube size the Diamond reflector is available in 400 Watt & 600 Watt Versions
In Use the Diamond consistently out-performs other traditional reflector designs leading to Improved crop uniformity, Higher Yields and shorter Crop cycles.
